Everything I need I have with me right now - Lockdown Mantra
Never thought I would be ironing in the studio, but during this Covid 19 Level 4 lockdown I have leaned into one of my Mantras "everything I need I have with me right now". And while it comes from a spiritual perspective, today it was put into a literal one. Confinement can be an opportunity for creativity, when our usual go tos are not available, we can find another way if we are determined to succeed.

So armed with my iron, hair straighteners, some clamps, a blade and a spray bottle I got started. I don't have a large workshop, the long narrow workbench in my studio is it. It gets messy and dusty, the space is cramped, but its dry and its a space to work, so innovation is required at every step of my design process. Awareness is critical to avoid an accident of any sort.
And this I realized, as I ironed out the plywood, bent it into the shape I wanted and refined it with my hair straighteners, is what sees us thrive in this world. Change is ironically constant. It is a guarantee of life along with taxes and death. So embracing change and using it bring positivity and look at things in a different light is what keeps us up to date with the change.
And I think we are starting to realize we all need to find other ways as we come to become familiar with our new and changing world. It has changed, and while the fear inside of us tells this is uncomfortable and unknown, scary and inconvenient, it can also show us the opportunities we didn't see beforehand and allow them to grow.
One day I hope we all say, the "Lockdown" was one of the best things that happened for me. I know this piece certainly was.
