Be the change or chase the change

The current times are showing us just how quickly our world can change. One moment it was business as usual, the next lockdown. COVID 19 has shown us that change is not something we control or necessarily have a choice in, but it is one that we have to work within if we are to have any hope of surviving.

Current economic advice to small businesses is to pivot. To find ways of working smarter, changing how we do things, and ultimately adapting to the times.

There are those that think we will go back to normal, but normal actually wasn't working for many. If it was, we would have had more reserves, more resistance, and more robustness that many businesses have been found wanting in.

"If it ain't broke, don't bother fixing it" a saying my sister's father in law told me once. The statement seemed odd to me because not investing and improving something means that what works today might not be in the best shape for tomorrow.

We need to enjoy and live in today, but we do need to save and plan a little for tomorrow. Tomorrow is the change, in fact today is the change from yesterday. We get so accustomed to our "normal" that we forget what it was like to live a life without mobile phones We forget how much the world has changed in the last 100 years despite our very easy access to historical records. We loose sight of just how fast evolution is happening before our very eyes.

Be the change today, because if you arent ready for the change of tomorrow, you will be chasing it from yesterday.
