Sustainable Materials - What we Choose

Sustainability has been a key part of my mindset since I was a child. So in my attempt to tread this earth as lightly as I possibility can, it simply made sense to bring this into my business activities.

Part of sustainability is about supporting and using those materials manufactured with similar sustainable actions and aspirations.

Plastic is something I try and avoid in my personal life, so it made sense to try and find packaging that could be 100% recycled. I found a great solution. Locally made cardboard that is made from recycled content and is 100% recyclable.

Also important was the material that I used for my creations. I have long standing love of wood, and so plywood was an obvious choice. Its light, made from trees and is strong.

The wood lampshades have been designed where no glue or screws are needed. The earrings and coasters are made from the waste that’s left over from the larger cuts.

Lastly the wood lampshades are flat packed, so that the space required for freight can be reduced.

It’s a simply concept, but it eases my mind knowing that my products are not polluting our water ways and not increasing landfill with plastic and synthetic materials and pieces.

That mindset has lead many of my decisions in my design. I hope to inspire others to make and continue to mate.
